Ahhhh I barely post anything on here anymore.
Last week I unexpectedly passed my new rules test (I had done no revision and went to the test as more of a social event… we take our tests in a bar…) and got 27/5 on my first official attempt. I’m made up - I have been stuck at 26 since passing my first set of minimums almost 2 years ago :) I’ve also been picked as captain for one of the cherry popper teams opening our re-match against Fierce Valley on Saturday - my recent bad attendance meant I didn’t have a place in the team for the main bout. So everything is going pretty frickin good and I have got my derby love back in the worst way!!!!! I think the catalyst was reading this great article - http://www.derbylife.com/2013/08/practice/ - which i’m sure everyone has read already. I’m not sure how someone has managed to put the entire derby experience into actual words when all I can usually manage is “yrdjrdtfvrkbfwrvgitsjustTHEBEST” but there it is :) I think the bit that made me realise that I need to throw myself back into my team (figuratively and literally!!!) was this:
"You go to practice even when you don’t want to go to practice. Derby has taken over your life and you wonder if there will ever be a time where you don’t have to go to practice. And sometimes you don’t go. Sometimes you want to stop the feeling of being caught in an endless roundelay of practice, practice, practice. So you just tell yourself: fuck it. You work late. You go to the bar. You lay around your apartment in your underwear, reading magazines and watching serial dramas on your laptop. You go back to practice.”
PS - If you are in the North West (or like to travel) and you haven’t heard about this, a) do you live under a rock; and b) go and buy your ticket.
I need pictures of a really muscular, well known women’s derby skater.
It’s for a project in my advertising class.
Anyone have one they can point me to? I’m thinking a starter for a top 20 WFTDA team.
I remember seeing some of Boston a year or two ago and I can’t seem to find them.

I’m so excited to be skating with York Minxsters on Sunday, my first experience of skating *for* another team ever! So grateful that I can even have the chance!! I’ve got loads of ‘derby guilt’ lately from missing training and generally being a bit rubbish so hopefully this will help help me put a new spin on everything and get back to where I was 3 months ago, my derby love is so back & I just need to start saying ‘yes’ to more opportunities like this or i’ll never get Spa Town and York girls I’ve played against in the past too :)>
Watching the boys play Barrow Infernos yesterday! So proud of them for their first bout, the score makes it seem like a blowout but i’ve never been so on edge watching a bout before. It was tense :) Thanks to Graeme Lamb for the photo and especially his ability to capture all the ugliest faces I make. Never done so much facebook untagging!!
I just want to share the love for our captain ‘knit-one hit-one’ for being amazing and dealing with my freak outs like a positivity superhero, such an amazing human being and also for being literally one of the most inspirational people i’ve ever met, I don’t think she is on tumblr so she probably wont see this but oh my ‘effing and jeffing’ god I love you knit-one!!!!!!!!!!
Didn’t even watch LRG vs Rose but I know when I get the chance to see it it will be the best thing ever!! I’m not in this picture (sad face) but I am backing LRG 100000000% !!!
